Remember when $5.00 would get you a HALF A TANK of gas?
I'm low on money & gas until pay day.
I put my last $5.00 in my Hyundai this morning so I can get to and from work today and part of tomorrow.
1 and 1/4 gallons is what $5.00 bought me this morning.
1 and 1/4 fricking gallons.
$3.89 a gallon for Regular.
1 and 1/4 effing gallons.

yep...that's what I've been saying, $10 used to fill or almost fill your tank, now it will at least get you to the next ATM.
Wow --- I gotta respect you for the walking thing --- that's great! I can't do that though. I don't do any kind of short trips like that where walking would work. And I always combine trips when I can. Plus, I'm kind of the car pool driver, because I drive Sarah & Deniro to their places plus my friend who works in the same place (and sometimes his wife, when there's room in my little car.)
It's just a crime that the price is as high as it is.
(oooh! a motorcycle --- cool!)
ha! Your "getting to the next ATM" remark is so sad but true. Plus, then you have to worry about the FEE the stinkin ATM will charge you
wah.
At least it'll last you for a couple of weeks if you're frugal. But think of the people who have to drive alot and that's normal for them to have to spend each week.. Yikes.
I'm so sorry YGRS. (psst, Deniro! Hide yer piggeh bank!)
Everyone I know is cutting back on expenses. I hope you make it through the week OK.
Short term, we need to take united action. Don't buy gas from the two biggest oil companies, Exxon and Mobil (which are now one). Buyers control the marketplace! We can have an impact by acting together.
Long term, there'll have to be big changes. Mass transit? People abandoning their cars beside the road? More horses, bikes, motorcycles? Alternative fuel?
&:o?
Alternate fuel --- definately has to happen. Eventually we're going to run out of gas, so why not start looking for a better fuel now while there's no immediate crippling crises.
Yeah, gas prices will vary everywhere. The idea is, Mobil & Exxon are the biggest. So, start at the top. IF everyone boycotted M. & E., gas prices might come down.
I find that I'm putting the same amount of dollars in my tank and just not driving if I can help it. In fact, stheriously, this summer I'm setting aside a few days a week to bike or walk to work. A friend of mine is Dutch, and he says Europe has been paying these prices for a long time.
Gotta go burn some liquid gold so I can have some food tonight. Byeeeee!!

But it still sucks.
2 wrongs do not make a right.(but 3 lefts can make a right, but that's different.)

Newsflash from Norway:
1 US$=5 norwegian kroner (kr).
1 gallon=3.789 liters.
1liter of gas= 12 kr.
YGRS, you would have to pay ~5l*12(kr)/5($)=12 $ for the same amount of gas if you were to buy it here!
No fair, Europeans get the way cool looking cars, that use less gas.
So, ...you have the sporting, efficient cars, ...oh and you have the superior public transportation systems, ...now could you please invent an alternative fuel?
I'd like to invent a way we could all work from home.
OMG, pleeeease!!!! I wanna work from home so bad.
(And just think of all the gas I'd waste driving there just to fill up...)

My car gets 13.5mpg in "city" driving -- *sigh*
But I do recall 26 cent/gallon gas when I was a little kid and driving to Wisconsin in the summertime-- imagine that......my parents thought it was a high price.
Yikes.
You know how they pay some farmers not to raise crops??? I want someone to pay me not to work! That way I'd save on gas and car upkeep and all kinds of stuff. I'd be helping the environment too.
I don't mean to sound like an old woman, but alot more these days, I find myself missing alot of things the way they used to be.
*sigh.*
The price of gas makes me see red! ;-p
I can understand why driving habits are different in Europe. Who the hell can afford prices like that. Wow.
Me too!!!
=8o\
...makes me glad that I take the bus..
There is something so not right about this. There are people who are paying more for the gas to get to work than they are paying for their house payment or rent. People have to be able to get to their jobs in order to have their jobs to feed their families and keep a roof over their head. It shouldn't be so hard.
And all the big oil companies that are making record profits are still getting HUGE tax breaks.
